Eve Ensler is an extra-ordinary woman who dedicated her life to making the world a better and safer place for women and girls. She is a best-selling author, playwright, performer and one of the most recognized woman leaders who actively campaigns to fight the violence against women and girls all over the world.
Ensler wrote the critically acclaimed and award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues” which was performed in sold-out runs in Broadways’ Westside Theater and on London’s West End Theater, translated in more than 48 languages the play is running for more than 10 years in Mexico City and Paris. It was also performed in over 140 countries worldwide. The Vagina Monologues portray the real life experiences of real women and the sensitive issues about their sexuality.
In the play, Ensler successfully liberated every female and exposed the struggles and negative attitudes against women. “The Vagina Monologues” is heartbreaking, funny and sometimes awkward but the most important thing is it served as an inspiration for Ensler to create the V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. Many women as well as men are inspired and suppor the campaign.
For more than 11 years, Ensler has been travelling around the world creating awareness and collaborating with anti-violence organizations to create a safer place, to educate and empower all women and girls to be strong and overcome the challenges confronting them and achieve a better life.
According to her, she wanted to change the verb “to please” as the primary role of women and girls and replace it with other verbs such as to educate, to assert, to achieve or any positive word that will empower women and girls.
Eve Ensler is described by many people as one of the most effective and powerful activist, author and motivator who can discuss the serious issues about women and girls with expertise from body image, family, friends, identity, materialism, sex and violence that affects the inner lives of females.
In her latest book “I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls around the World”, Ensler said that she believes every girl is unique and the one of greatest natural resources that can change, inspire and heal the world. With her book, she aims to encourage and motivate girls to feel secure, to love and accept their own identity. She tells girls, “You are special as you are.”
Every time she speaks about girls, women and the V-Day movement, you can feel her compassion and her sincerity to end the violence inflicted against females of all ages. According to her, the V-Day will continue to create awareness in different ways and educate people to their change social attitudes towards women until the violence eventually stops.
